Harm OCD

One of the most misunderstood types of OCD is referenced as a type of OCD, referred to as harm OCD. It is connected to intrusive thoughts or fear of harming self or other people and also makes people feel guilty and anxious. Due to its nature, this condition has many myths around it. It is time to dig out those myths and know the truth.

Myth 1: The Harm OCD Causes You to Be Dangerous

One of the greatest misconceptions is that individuals with harm Obsession OCD will tend to act on their thoughts. In practice this is not the case. People with Harm OCD find the thoughts upsetting as they are in conflict with their values. These thoughts are undesired and the people affected by this condition tend to give them a wide berth.

Myth 2: Intrusive Thoughts and Intentions are Compatible

The other falsity is that the belief is the desire to take action. Physicists and thoughts are not the same. Inharm harm OCD, thoughts are automatic and upsetting. They are not symbolic of somebody hed want; they are instead a representation of how OCD bites the brain.

Myth 3: It Is Only Overthinking in Harm OCD

The perception goes that Harm OCD is not being worried enough This is not at all true. It is not normal to worry all the time, so Harm OCD is a cycle of intrusive thoughts and compulsions, like avoiding sharp objects or asking for reassurance. It is a medical disorder not a worrying habit.

Myth 4: Individuals Are Capable of Putting a Stop on these Thoughts

It may be easy to think that individuals with Harm OCD only need to stop thinking about it. Unfortunately, we find that the harder we tried to suppress these thoughts the stronger they grew. Lacking treatment, the cycle continues. Therapy, particularly, Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), has proved to be helpful in enabling individuals to cope with such thoughts.

Closing Note
Harm OCD is at no moment to be confused with violent behavior. It is a fight against intrusive thoughts that contradict a person on his/her mortal and highest principles. Having mixed the myths associated with this condition, empathy can be opened. With a better understanding and proper treatment, one can live with Harm OCD and hopefully find equilibrium and lead a better and peaceful life.
